College and Career Night Gym

College and Career Night

Every year Cabrillo College hosts an event that gets begins turning dreams into realities.  The event always falls on the first Monday evening in November from 6-8pm.  Universities and Colleges from all over the nation set up tables in the Cabrillo Gymnasium.  Financial Aid including scholarship and FASFA representatives are available to speak with in the Cabrillo library.  The Cabrillo Cafeteria is filled with clubs and programs such as allied health, dental hygiene, math, science, and first generation student clubs.

Enthusiastic representatives greet college curious teens and their families with answers to questions. No question is too small to ask.  Some of the questions heard from attendees to representatives were,

What majors do you specialize in?

Size of enrollment? Tuition?

Is your school a party school?

What scholarships do you offer?

What kind of personality does the school have?

What about clubs, sports, extra curricular activities?

What help is provided for first generation college students?

Choosing the right college means making sure the college provides the programs/majors you want as well as the social and physical environment that feels right for your character.  Tuition and scholarships may also be a deciding factor.  Be sure to start looking for scholarships as early as possible.  Even if you can't apply for a scholarship yet you can still prepare and be ready to send when the application window opens.  Believe it or not some scholarships for high school seniors expire Dec. the previous year they are awarded. It pays to be informed about scholarships as early as possible.

Students as young as middle school come to get exposed and excited.  Freshmen in high school attend to ask questions and see what's out there.  Juniors and Seniors visit with an important sense of curiosity and focus as to what might be next in their educational careers.
